Today I have two wonderful yet tear-jerking books to share with you.
The first of which is:
“Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives”
Jocelyn does a great job in this book which every wife of a man in the military should own or at least read.
Jocelyn first gives you a topic and a bible verse like most devotionals and then it helps to show you how the Bible “relates to what you are experiencing in the military community.” Then she gives you a question to ask yourself. Now mind you, this isn’t always an easy question to answer and it might take some real soul searching before you find the answer, but if you truly think it through to an honest answer, you will be surprised and even inspired. Last, but not least, Jocelyn leaves you with a prayer at the end of each one.
An example of topics in this book are “Nothing But A Breath” and “The Gift of Grace.”
Second:
“Battlefields & Blessings”
Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq and Afghanistan
Another heartfelt story from Jocelyn Green, Jane Hampton Cook, and John Croushorn
This book takes you page by page throughout a complete year of time, starting January 1st and ending December 31st. These stories and prayers “address issues of grief, post-traumatic stress syndrome, leadership, faith, courage, recovery, deployment separation,” etc…and that’s just to name a few.
The story contributors are from Sergeants, Captains, Chaplains, Special Forces, FBI, ATF, missionaries, family members and more.
It’s not easy to read one of these stories and remain dry eyed. In fact, too many times I found myself balled up in the corner of the couch, crying my eyes out while reading this. Now, I guess this is a good time to say that this is easily a book that you can just pick up and open to any page and read…it certainly doesn’t have to be from cover to cover or in any certain order.
For instance, if you open the book to April 13 entitled “Emergency Room,” you will read a story submitted by a wife of an overseas Lieutenant. You will read about what she as a mother (a married mother, only single because her husband is deployed) must deal with on her own because it just comes up with everyday life…only she can’t share her worries with her husband, because he is unreachable. In fact, in this particular story, the reason she can’t cry on her husbands shoulder is because her husband is overseas fighting a war, while she is in the hospital watching the ER doctor fight for her son’s life.
Ok…now on to the giveaway, while I must admit there is nothing exciting about this type of giveaway, it is a little comforting knowing that these books will make it to someone who really needs them.
Jocelyn was gracious enough to give me a copy of each of these books to giveaway to my followers. Now I have to tell you I went back and forth on whether or not I should put them both together and let one winner win both, or if I should let each book go to a separate follower. After much deliberating, I came to the conclusion that I am going to make them two separate giveaways. I REALLY, really want “Faith Deployed” to go to a military wife and “Battlefields & Blessings” can go to anyone with interest. There are so many of us with loved ones, friends, acquaintances deployed overseas, that I just thought if each of Jocelyns books went to a separate person, she is helping more people to deal with their grief and emotions.
I will put all the entries into the drawing for “Battlefields and Blessings, “ even the ones for wives. And I will take three entries for each wife to put into the drawing for “Faith Deployed.”
Ok, Ok…enough sniffling on my part.
